Microbiological Analysis - Total Coliforms + E.coli

A highly recommended microbiological testing suite designed for all water supplies to assess the microbiological safety of drinking water post-treatment.

Why is this suite important?

This 6-monthly microbiological analysis is essential for ensuring safe drinking water by detecting E. coli and Total Coliforms, which are key indicators of microbial contamination.

  • E. coli indicates fecal contamination and the potential presence of harmful pathogens.
  • Total Coliforms signal general bacterial contamination and may suggest compromised water quality due to system integrity issues.

 

Regular testing helps ensure that treatment systems are functioning correctly and that the water remains safe for consumption over time.

The Maximum Acceptable Values (MAVs) and treatment limits for these determinands are:

  • E. coli: Must not be detected in 100 mL samples
  • Total Coliforms: Presence indicates potential contamination

 

  • 📌 If you have a Safe Supply Online Drinking Water Safety Plan, your test results can be automatically shared with the online tool, made available to members of your water supply, and scheduled for submission to the regulator as required.
