Chlorine By-Product Analysis
For drinking water supplies that utilize chlorination as a disinfection method, ensuring annual monitoring of chlorine-related by-products to safeguard water quality and regulatory compliance.
Why This Suite Is Important
Chlorine is widely used to disinfect drinking water, but it can react with organic and inorganic matter to form disinfection by-products (DBPs) that may impact water quality and health.
Bromate forms in ozonated water and is a potential carcinogen.
Chlorate and chlorite can result from chlorine dioxide disinfection and may affect blood cell function with prolonged exposure.
Regular monitoring ensures that disinfection remains effective while minimizing risks associated with DBPs.
The Maximum Acceptable Values (MAVs) and treatment limits for these determinands are:
Chemical & Physical Contaminants:
Bromate: 0.01 mg/L
Chlorate: 0.8 mg/L
Chlorite: 0.7 mg/L
📌 If you have a Safe Supply Online Drinking Water Safety Plan, your test results can be automatically shared with the online tool, made available to members of your water supply, and scheduled for submission to the regulator as required.
📌 Results must be retained for at least 5 years and made available to all members of the water supply.
