Well Driller Groundwater Chemistry & Microbiological Analysis
A highly recommended suite for comprehensive groundwater quality assessment, designed for well drilling, bore development, and water supply safety.
Why is this suite important?
This comprehensive groundwater analysis suite provides both chemical and microbiological assessments, ensuring that well water meets drinking water quality standards before use.
Microbiological testing (E. coli & Total Coliforms) ensures that the water is free from harmful bacteria that could pose health risks.
Chemical analysis identifies key factors like heavy metal contamination, scaling potential, and corrosivity, which can impact potability, plumbing integrity, and treatment system performance.
Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) determines whether the water is likely to cause corrosion (pipe damage) or scale buildup in plumbing and treatment systems.
This suite is essential for well drillers, landowners, and water suppliers needing a full picture of water safety before distribution or treatment system selection.
The Maximum Acceptable Values (MAVs) and treatment limits for these determinands are:
Microbiological Contaminants:
E. coli: Must not be detected in 100 mL samples
Total Coliforms: Presence indicates potential contamination
Chemical & Physical Contaminants:
Arsenic: 0.01 mg/L
Ammonia: 1.5 mg/L
Bromine: Not specified under MAV, but monitored due to potential disinfection by-products
Calcium & Hardness: No MAV, but hardness >200 mg/L can cause scaling issues
Chloride: 250 mg/L (Aesthetic value due to taste issues)
Iron: 0.2 mg/L (Aesthetic guideline, staining at high levels)
Magnesium: No MAV, but high levels contribute to hardness
Nitrate-N: 11.3 mg/L as NO₃-N (to prevent Blue Baby Syndrome in infants)
pH: 7.0 – 8.5 (Recommended for drinking water)
Silica: No MAV, but scaling potential at high levels
Sulphate: 250 mg/L (Aesthetic, due to taste and potential laxative effects)
Turbidity: <1.0 NTU for effective disinfection
📌 If you have a Safe Supply Online Drinking Water Safety Plan, your test results can be automatically shared with the online tool, made available to members of your water supply, and scheduled for submission to the regulator as required.
📌 Results must be retained for at least 5 years and made available to all members of the water supply.
💬 Need Help?
Once you receive your results, we can introduce you to a water quality expert with knowledge of drinking water and treatment options to assist in understanding the results and developing a drinking water supply strategy.
